Business Marketing with an Instagram Photo Contest

An Instagram photo contest is a great way to promote your business while having some fun. A photo contest can lead to new followers while your company is giving back to the Instagram community.

But running an Instagram photo contest isn’t always easy, and can be a bit confusing. Here is a short guide on getting the most out of a photo contest, should you choose to do so.

Target Your Market

Define your target market before kicking off your photo contest. A contest for families who enjoy camping is going to look a lot different than couples who look for new and exciting places to visit in the city. Determine who you intend to engage with, and gear your contest toward them.

Team Up

Finding a partner for your Instagram photo contest can be a benefit for both businesses. Not only can you gain more followers through this method, but you’ll also receive additional exposure. Most of these types of partnerships require participants to be followers of both accounts before they can enter. Keep things simple though. There’s no need to team up with more than one business per contest.

Avoid Confusion

Make sure your rules for entering and participating in your photo contest are clear and concise. Include an ending date and time, and offer step-by-step instructions for participants, including limitations on number of entries.

Call to Action

Provide your followers a clear call to action, so that they are fully aware of the necessary steps required to enter the contest. The primary purpose of your photo contest is to gain followers or increase your exposure (but make sure you have fun too!). The two most common ways to go about doing this is to have contestants tag a friend or post a picture.

Tag a Friend – For this type of call to action, have participants tag a friend to enter the contest. When the friend sees your post and competition, they will join and tag more friends.

a

Post a Photo – Contestants with this type of call to action post a photo and use a specific hashtag to enter. This will allow you to track the entries, and pick a winner when the time comes.

Keep an Eye on Submissions

This is your contest, so it would behoove you to be aware of how it’s progressing. Decide how you’ll monitor your contest, whether manually or by using one of the many tools available for just such an occasion. Decide beforehand how you plan on following your contest, so you’re not scrambling to decide while submissions are rolling in.

Declare a Winner

When your contest comes to a close, it’s time to pick a winner. Some contests use a poll, while others may use a group of judges. No matter what method you choose, select a winner and notify them through Instagram.

Promote the winner on your Instagram page, but don’t forget to give credit where credit is due. Cross-promote on other platforms. Announce the results on your Twitter, Facebook, and web pages as well.

Repeat as Needed

Running an Instagram photo contest doesn’t have to be a one-time occurrence. You can have a weekly or monthly contest. Explore your options, find what works best for your company and adjust as needed. Discover a way to build habits with your followers while creating momentum with your contests.

Instagram photo contests are an excellent opportunity to have fun with the platform while building up a following. Be creative and engaging with your contests to have the most success. Not only will you expand your audience, but you’ll also have fresh content that may inspire your next photo contest. For more tips, check out DFY’s lead generation system

How to scale your business up to $1 million

If you want to scale your business up to $1 million or more, there’s one proven strategy that could get you there faster than anything else…

First of all, let me assure you that it is possible for anyone to go from zero-to-a-million dollars each year.

But you must be good at sales and marketing, have that drive to hustle, and most importantly, you need to find and hire motivated employees to help you scale.

In fact, you can quickly build up to $1 million with a very small staff of just 5–10 people.

With a small team, everyone knows who everyone else is, and each person knows their role.

And even if they work remotely all around the world, everyone still knows what everyone else is doing.

However, when your goals increase from $1 million to $10 million, you’ll need to bring a lot more people on board, and you’ll need to put new systems into place…

Like segmenting everyone to their own Skype groups, and having weekly meetings with your managers so everyone stays on the same page.

One of the biggest challenges you’ll face is keeping everyone on the staff focused on reaching the same goals.

If you can overcome that, you’ll be well on your way to making seven or even eight-figures with your online business.

a

And if you want to scale even faster, I have a great opportunity for you…

It’s called THE LAPTOP LIFESTYLE SYSTEM and it has paid regular people like you over $103 million in commissions.

The system was designed for normal people (like you), gives you a coach, and teaches you how to get leads online.

The company behind this system builds the websites, fulfills the products, and sells your leads into higher priced programs that you continue getting commissions on – for life.

And every time our phone team closes a sale, you could make BIG commissions of $1,250, $5,500, or $10,000 per sale… and sometimes more!

All you have to do is bring in the leads, which I do mostly through free social media, and this company does the rest for you.

You’re just one step away from changing your life and financial future forever.

The Next Paradigm Shift for Internet Marketing (video)

Most people get started in this industry because they’re looking for an easy way to make money online from home.

Just think about it… deep down, we all get started in this industry because we want to easily make a lot of money online.

That’s the mindset you should have with your new leads and clients…

They are looking for a quick, easy solution to their problems – and they want to make money FAST.

The Internet has enabled everyone on the planet to get instant solutions, so the latest big shift in Internet Marketing is moving towards things being “Done For You.”

People love investing into a business that’s already “done for them,” because it’s less work for them, plus the possibility to make more money.

a

The closer you can get to doing everything for them, the more you will sell (and the more you’ll make).

In fact, if you’re a beginner, or a “rookie” in the online marketing business, there are 21-simple steps you must take in order to become a millionaire online.

In fact, 22-year-old Steven Bransfield implemented all 21 of these steps to launch from zero to over $1 million in less than two years.

Steven just published a new video explaining step-by-step how he made it.

All I left with was a $25,000 student bill.

This is a true story from my Mentor Matt Lloyd founder of Mobe. This is so true! I was a former student loan debt counselor, so I truly can attest to this!

Yesterday while paying for some snacks at a store here at the Hilton Fiji, I noticed this book on sale:

So I bought a copy, then started flicking through.  It’s actually a decent book.  In the first chapter, the author talks about the value of getting an MBA, and how overall he thinks its both a waste of time and money.

So I thought I’d share my take on this with you today;  do you need to have a degree or MBA to do well in your own business?

And should you encourage your kids, or grand kids, to go to university if they want to start a business?

My answer is, ‘it depends,’ with a strong lean towards ‘No.’  If you want to do well with your own business, a degree or MBA counts for virtually nothing.

Let me explain…

I spent close to 4 years at university.  It wasn’t an Ivy league school or anything like that, but, is considered one of the top universities in Australia, and definitely the top one in my home city of Perth.

My initial degrees were going to be Philosophy and Psychology.

Then after a year I changed to business and psychology.

Then after another year, I changed to business and economics.

In my fourth year I got into the world of internet marketing, and decided it was time to start my own business.

I had 2 options;

1.) Work on my business part time, a few hours a day, and finish my degrees so I’d have something to ‘fall back on’ if my online business didn’t work out.

2.) Quit university, get no degrees or anything to show for the past 4 years, but I could at least focus full time on building my business and become successful much faster.

Patience is something i have a very short supply of, so I chose option 2.

All I left with was a $25,000 student bill.

Of course, my parents were not thrilled.  They said, “at least finish your studies so you have something to fall back on if the online business thing does not work out.”

I knew that was flawed thinking though.  If I approached my business with that mentality, I was doomed the fail from the start.  I had to be ‘all-in’ or nothing for it to work.

But boy, did I start learning fast.

In those first 24 months of being in the trenches, I learned far more than I had in the previous 4 years of university.

Very little of what I learned at university has helped me succeed in the business world.

If I could go back in time to 2009, instead of going to business school I’d go buy a bunch of great business books and study them instead, and then immediately begin building my business.

Nothing will ever take the place of real-world experience, and learning lessons through making a lot of mistakes.

To spend 3 or 4 years of your life at university carries an enormous opportunity cost with it for real-world learning.

a

Now, does this mean that I’m totally against going to business school and getting a degree if you plan to be a business owner?

No, not completely.  There are some useful topics you can learn.  For example, accounting.  I WISH I paid more attention during those Accounting 101 units.  Those are useful skills I really could have used in my business.  Finance 101 also has it’s uses.  Understanding how an asset gets valued from future cash flow streams has its uses, for when you’re deciding which internal projects you should invest in next.

But as far as topics like marketing, and HR, and entrepreneurship – those are topics best learned through experience and a few select books.

Side note:  I think it’s a joke when university’s have classes and majors in ‘entrepreneurship’ being taught by professors who’ve never built successful business’s.  No matter how many biographies and textbooks you read about successful entrepreneurs, you have no right to teach the topic unless you’ve started and scaled a business of your own.

My other big problem with business degrees, is the intent in which students undertake their studies.

Most students study to pass exams and get good grades.  Surface-level understanding.

They don’t study with the primary intention of deep-level understanding, and real world application.

I can’t tell you how many times during my studies I pulled all-nighters, cramming in as many facts and figures into my tired brain for the next mornings exam.

Somehow I’d always get through – occasionally I’d even get good marks.

But 7 days later, I’d have forgotten 90% of what I’d learned.  The knowledge had not sunk in at a deep level.

In the real business world, no one cares about an exam grade.

None of my customers have ever asked to see my degree.

No traffic vendors have ever requested to see my grades.

No super affiliates who promoted my brand and made millions for the both of us wanted to know which university I graduated from.

At the end of the day, the only think that counts in the real world, is you figuring out the answers for yourself and getting results.

The only thing that gets rewarded is knowledge applied in the right areas.

So if you (or someone you know) is dead set on going to university to study business and I can’t talk you / them out of it, my advice is simple:  study for deep level understanding and for real world application.  The exams themselves are less important in the real world than you think.

My final disclaimer here:

All my advice above is for people who want to be real entrepreneurs.

I’m not talking about the ‘entrepreneur on instagram and Facebook’ type (you know the ones, posting about how great their lifestyle is, when the reality is they don’t have a pot to piss in).

I’m talking about those who cannot be talked out of the idea of starting their own business – those who don’t believe in concept of weekends – those who have an obsession with building a massively successful company.

For these people, they just don’t need to go to business university.

That’s my rant for today.  If you want to hear me elaborate a little more on my views, here’s a short video of a university student asking me about dropping out of school:

Why Your Mailing List Is Your Most Powerful Online Marketing Tool

The number one way to really convert website visitors into actual customers is through email correspondence. I can’t tell you how many times this has personally worked on me. A company sends an alluring email, you open it, and then realize that hey, this is really cool and the next thing you know, you’re about to check out your cart.

This is the real power of email marketing, which many online business owners might underestimate as a powerful lead generating and conversion force. The idea of being an online business does not negate the need to connect with individuals, and emails provide a convenient and also effecitve way to accomplish that. This means that if nothing else, when visitors come to your site, this is the one piece of information you want to ask them to leave with you before they go.

A large following on twitter or Facebook and other social media platforms will never guarantee you the levels of conversion and profitable traffic that email will. In fact, if you get on to platforms like LinkedIn, which has millions of business contacts and prospects, you can get information  which will springboard you into making connections and grow your business to proportions you never thought possible.

The Benefits of Email Marketing

  1. Email marketing provides you with a direct and safe way to interact with customers, and present the offerings of your business to them. The awesome thing is that you get to control the frequency of your emails and also personalize them for your audience.
  2. Research has shown that return on investment rates produced as a result of email interactions, are the greatest you will ever receive, than from any other marketing method you use. This means that your company really needs to go all out in terms of collecting email information from prospective clients, and on members in your target groups to really get in on this cash cow.
  3. In additon to desktop users, you can reach a wider number of prospects who view emails on their mobile devices. This further increases your scope to make connections, which means that your business will have to consider formatting these emails to be displayed attractively on smaller mobile screens, not just desktops. Don’t run the risk of having your valuable messages deleted because they don’t display well on a mobile screen, so cover all the bases, and don’t let this be a cause for loss of revenue.
  4. All you need is an interest catching subject line to encourage your reader’s further interest i n exploring the message. You may also chose not to make your message too lengthy. Keeping it simple may be very appealing especially to busy people and also appear more personal.
  5. You can easily combine the your email marketing efforts with social media marketing, by using videos for example, in the body of your email, which can then easily be shared on social media platforms to greatly increase the scope of your reach.

How To Get Your Hands On Mailing Lists

a

You can acquire email subscriber lists through the database that you have created on your own website. Additonally, you can reach out to mailing list brokers who will provide you with targeted lists, based on your specifications, for a fee. Alternatively, you can get this information through public records, although it may not be as profitable for you as your own company list or a puchased targeted listing.

6 Ways to Improve Your Email’s Subject Lines

Massive email marketing campaigns are a great way to get more eyes on your newsletter or website since you can reach thousands of people at once. However, your campaign won’t be successful if nobody opens your message. According to Madison Logic, over 122 billion emails are sent an hour, so knowing how to stand out from the crowd is important.

Your email’s headline is arguably the most important part of the message since it’s the part readers will see first and make a split-second decision whether opening the message is worth their time. Headlines that aren’t interesting will quickly be marked as read or deleted. In fact, copywriter coach Chris Marlow claims that studies have proven that headlines are responsible for 50-75% of an ad’s success.

Knowing just how much of your campaign’s success rests on the headline alone, it’s important that you really take the time to examine how effective your headlines are. Here are a few great tips to craft better headlines:

Personalize your subject line.

A study by MailChimp examined about 24 billion emails and found that subject lines with the recipient’s first and/or last name were opened more often than those without. The most effective emails had both the first and last name, though those which only used the last name were strangely more effective than emails that only used the first name.

The power of first name personalization varied based on industries. Personalized emails sent to those in the government were opened 92% more often than usual while there was 45% difference for the creative services/agency industry. There were positive effects in all sorts of industries such as software, art, retail, and entertainment, but proved to be ineffective in the legal industry with a -31% open rate.

Create a sense of urgency.

A headline that compels the user to read right away will surely be opened. Such a headline tells the reader that there is some important information within the email that needs to be read right away and can’t be put off until later.

The aforementioned MailChimp study found that the following words results in a higher open rate:

  • Urgent: 79%
  • Breaking: 68%
  • Important: 55%
  • Alert: 31%

Note that Adestra similarly found that “alert” lead to a 61.8% increase in open rates.

You could also give a deadline with phrases like “today only” or “last chance” to make sure that they know they must act now.

Make them feel special.

a

Much like how adding a first and last name to a subject line makes the email feel more personal, so too does adding phrases that make the email sound like it’s exclusively for the reader. Headlines such as “An exclusive offer just for you,” “For your eyes only,” or “A message for our dear customers only” makes the reader know that this message is just for them or their group of people.

Keep it short and simple.

Your subject line should ideally be 6-10 words, under 50 characters, and provide a description of what the reader can expect in the message. People are used to receiving an overabundance of emails and won’t want to waste any time on something that doesn’t immediately meet their needs. Subject lines that are too vague or too detailed won’t be opened very often.

Short headlines are especially important when considering that 40% of emails are opened on mobile and that longer headlines will get cut off. You can shorten your headline by using contractions and not spelling out numbers. (i.e. “don’t” instead of “do not” and “45” instead of “forty-five”)

Capitalize each word.

MailChimp found that capitalizing each word in the subject line lead to a 7% increase in open rate while only capitalizing at least one word lead to a -1% open rate. These numbers are small, but they shouldn’t be overlooked. If you have a very large mailing list, the small percentage points can translate to hundreds or thousands of consumers.

Use an A/B test.

You will likely reach a situation where you have multiple headlines you would like to use, but can’t decide which one is best. You should A/B test them by sending them to segments of your mailing list. Collect some data and then send out the winning headline to the rest of your list.

Make sure to keep as many factors as consistent as possible. For example, if you sent Headline A at 2:00 AM and Headline B at 9:00 AM, you shouldn’t be surprised if there’s a stark difference in open rates.

Using the right headline hacks can exponentially improve your marketing success. You should use MailChimp, Constant Contact, or another email marketing service to send out your emails, track statistics, and watch your numbers grow. What is the best way to promote more than one company?

When you are a new affiliate, there is definitely the temptation to branch out and promote other programs too.

You might think, “I should be in several different programs because I can make more money, then I can have multiple streams of income.”

But here’s the problem with that mindset…

Most people looking for multiple streams of income don’t even have ONE stream of income online.

Then they get overwhelmed by the programs, and most of them never spend the time needed to master just one.

In the beginning, it’s very important to promote just one product, until you can build up to around $100,000 a year. By that point, you should have a sizable email list, and you can start promoting different products for your business.

And if you’re looking for a proven system that will help you get to six figures even faster, I have a good opportunity for you…

a

It’s called The Laptop Lifestyle System,  and as of right now, the system has paid regular people like you over $103 million in commissions.

A few years ago I was struggling, but then I found a company that handles product fulfillment, sales, website design, customer service, and merchant processing for me.

This company works with regular people (like you), gives you a coach who teach you how to find leads.

Then all you have to do is bring in the leads – which I do mostly through free social media – and they do the rest.

You’re just one step away from changing your life and your financial future forever.

Safety Practices for Small Business Social Media Use

No longer the “New Kid in Town.” Social Media and its marketing resources have gone from a compulsive form of recreation for many to a fundamental piece of any business plan, large or small.

What is still not readily known by many business owners and managers is that use of social media by companies and their employees can seriously compromise a businesses’ security.  Very often, when it comes to maintaining safety and security via social media, employees can end up being the biggest issue.

Whether it’s from posting on their personal page about things happening at work, or clicking on things they shouldn’t while using an office computer, employees can accidentally leak information or download mal-ware into your network without even realize they are doing it.

To help avoid the issues that can result in these seemingly small actions, here are some tips to assist you in keeping your business and your employees safe from social-media troubles, both at work and at home.

Advise Employees to Avoid Posting Info About Where They Work

Even though you can’t stop an employee from telling people where they work, explain that like giving out their home address and phone number online, revealing where they work can make it easy for people to find them and collect more info on their daily routine.

Employees should also be informed that associating the company with a personal account on questionable social networks could hurt the company and, by default, hurt the employee as well.

Keep Privacy Settings Updated

This is important on two fronts.  First, train your employees how to maintain their own accounts’ privacy settings, this will lessen the possibility of unauthorized info getting leaked.

On your businesses’ accounts, it’s likely you don’t know most of the followers you’ve cultivated.  Taking steps to secure those accounts as much as possible, with privacy settings that will work best for your company, will significantly add to your online security

Establish Work Place Use of Social Media

Most of us have done it, checked our Facebook page during lunch or a break.  Instead of trying to ban the use of social media on work computers, it may be better to create some policies on how to use it instead.

For instance, stating that visitation of these sites may only be made during breaks and that the use of apps like games, quizzes, or anything else that requires clicking on links, are prohibited on company computers. Putting these policies in place will assist you in avoiding issues that can affect your network.

a

Make Sure Your IT Specialists Are Trained to Handle Social Media Specific Issues

Once you’ve established an office policy for Social Media use, it will need to be enforced.  This means ongoing surveillance of online activities.  To accomplish this, invest in consulting, and antivirus protection via software and hardware.

Additionally, the company’s technical staff will need to be updated about current social-media security risks.

A Word on Hacking

All businesses and their social media accounts are potential targets. Any compromise of these tools could result in irreparable damage.  Fortunately, the items we’ve already discussed can help prevent a hacker from successfully breaking into your account.

Additionally, use strong passwords with unique alpha-numeric combinations.  These days to create the best possible login security, you need to use upper and lower-case letters, numbers, and accepted punctuation as allowed.

Once you have one password, don’t use it for multiple logins.  If a hacker manages to figure one account out, you’ll have given up the keys to the entire kingdom.

A Little Prevention Can Go A Long Way

The most important way to prevent harmful issues from social media use is to educated and even provide training for your employees.

Whether this is via a workshop, meeting or included in a section of the employee handbook, be sure your employees have the knowledge that can save your business’ social media accounts and their own from unnecessary attention and use.

Monitoring the social media marketing landscape is vital to your success. If you’d like to have access to even more powerful marketing tips, as well as a way to generate conversion-ready Internet marketing prospects each month, click here to learn about my done-for-you system.
